Schooling 2nd Nov, 2007 @ 23:07
I have been in nursery school for three months now. So what have I learned?

I have observed that being rude and aggressive often gets you things ahead of others. But my folks say that I should not learn to behave like that.

I have learned how to make a gun out of LEGO, to go "Boom!" and to "kill". But my folks insist that LEGO is for building, not destroying.

I have learned to sing Chinese songs, but I don't really understand what I am singing about. I could be singing about the virtues of lead paint in kiddie toys and I would be none the wiser!

I have learned to speak better Singlish, but my folks insist on correcting me. Why liddat one? Oh, I mean "Why are they like that?"

I have always known that I prefer staying at home with mama to going to school. But my folks still think that I can benefit from attending classes.

Maybe one day I'll learn how to say "kill" in Chinese, push some kids out of the way, and then stab a particularly obnoxious one with a LEGO sword. Lah!

Boo! 1st Nov, 2007 @ 13:13
It was Halloween yesterday (boo!), but I did not get any candy treats (boo!). While spending the day out with my folks and grandma was kind of sweet, I don't think that it beats hoarding candy!

I did not have a costume either! The closest thing I got to a horror mask was my imitation of papa's moustache (see the photo I posted yesterday).

Ah, well... at least I had chocolate fondue. And ice cream. And I didn't have to attend school. And grandma bought me new clothes and shoes. But there was still no bag of candy!

I did not think that was anything more delicious than strawberries. But an experience today proved me wrong.

What is better than strawberries? Chocolate covered strawberries! I am talking about fondue! I also had chocolate covered bananas and apples. I did not think much of chocolate covered marshmallows.

Funny thing about eating chocolate covered food... the food fights back and covers you in chocolate too! Actually it was papa who put that chocolate moustache on me.

But I loved it! It was long overdue fondue!

Yesterday I talked about "shitting down" and today I want to tell you about pissing off. No, I am not getting potty-mouthed! It's just the way some adults say things!

But first things first. Sometimes I get preoccupied with my cars or immersed in my favourite TV shows. When papa tells me that it is time to bathe, I resist. Then he will announce, "Wee-ing contest!"

That is the signal for me to run to the bathroom and see who can wee into the toilet bowl the fastest! I always win!

I know that it is papa's way of a) getting me into the bathroom and b) getting me to pee in the bowl instead of the shower area. But it is so much fun!

This is at least one thing that I can do only with papa and not with mama. Mama cheats by sitting on the bowl and I don't think she would like it if I tried to wee while she was still seated on it!

Like there are cook-offs, I enjoy a good piss off. If you think you are up for a challenge, let me know the time and the bowl. I am confident that I will beat you, pants down!

Am I too young to start making fun of my teachers? Let me tell you a story and you can decide...

Today I told papa that one of my teachers has a funny way of asking us to do something. When she wants us to be seated, she will say, "Shit down, pleash!" I had a hoot imitating her! Hee-hee!

But if you take her literally, you have to ask yourself if there is any way to do it otherwise...

» Play date
You may be pleased to note that my play date with Kaatje yesterday went well.

Kaatje and her folks are not from Singapore and they live in campus housing. They have a nice big place... all the better to fill up with toys I say!

While our mamas chatted, we had tea over a small table and with kiddy sized things for eating and drinking with. That was fun... of the girly sort!

I really had fun when I got to ride her trike! I would have loved it if she had more cars and trucks. I guess I will have to show her what I mean if she comes over to my place next week!

I had so much fun that I was reluctant to leave. I wonder how she will feel when she visits my domain...

» Middle
Sometimes I like to be the little man in the middle. Other times I don't.

When mama and papa hug me at the same time, they make an Isaac sandwich. Maybe we are more like a hot dog. Whatever the case, it is oh-so-delicious!

But today I was the object of affection from two girls in my class. Kaatje and Manmak welcomed me when I arrived in school today. But Kaatje pushed Manmak away! I stood there not knowing what to do.

Is it good that girls are fighting over me? I am not sure. But if they fought over me in order to bring me a chocolate chip cookie or the dump truck for the sand pit, I might just change my mind!

Whatever the case, ladies, keep this in mind for future reference: I may be little, but there is enough Isaac for everyone to enjoy!

» Pumpkin
We had an evening out yesterday and we came across some Halloween costumes on sale. I was pleased to find a pumpkin-warlock hat!

It's a shame that we don't really celebrate Halloween here in Singapore. When I was a year old in Bloomington, I was an iPod click wheel. When I celebrated my first Halloween, I was a pumpkin!

This year, I am just... Little Man Isaac

» Passport
I skipped school today with mama's full approval. Why? I had to collect my passport!

Mama submitted the application online and had to provide a digital photo of me. So that was why papa wanted to take so many photos! But the folks who made the passport had to see me in person before they would let me have it!

So, does this mean that I can travel to Bloomington now?

» New song
Did you miss me last Friday? I was around, but where were you?

OK, OK... to make up for it, I'll sing you a song that I just composed. A, B, C, D, E, F, Wee. H, I, J, K, L, M, N, O, Pee!

Hee-hee! I thought that was really funny! If you think that it was not, then blame Dr Seuss for being a bad influence on me!

» Hoppy
I have a new friend and his name is Hoppy. Mama says that he is imaginary, but he is as real to me as Thomas the Tank Engine or Lightning McQueen!

Hoppy is a kangaroo who likes to eat bananas, pears, and blueberries. He can't eat very much else because his hands are too small. He only likes drinking water.

He also kanga-pees and kanga-poos. (It was particularly difficult when he was constipated!) I have to help him clean and wash up after he is done. Dang his small hands and his long tail that gets in the way!

Fortunately, Hoppy likes the same things that I do. He loves Cars movie cars and he can store all of them in his pouch! What a neat trick!

Papa wanted to know where I found Hoppy. He wasn't wandering downstairs and I did not kidnap him from the Mandai Zoo. He was already in our flat when we moved in!

I like Hoppy very much because he is always ready to play with me and to share everything he has with me. Can he come to school with me? I can put him in my backpack!

» Splash!
Boy, did I have a splashing good time at Sentosa today!

Unfortunately, the rest of my classmates and other kids from my school were also there (could the place get more crowded?). Fortunately, mama joined me for the field trip.

Unfortunately, it rained and we only watched part of an animal show. Fortunately, we got to play in the wading pool. What I don't understand is why we couldn't jump in the pool when it rained since we were going to get soaking wet anyway!

Unfortunately, some obnoxious kid grabbed my leg in the pool and tried to pull me like a rag doll. Fortunately, a teacher stopped the kid before I got pulled under!

Unfortunately, one of my teachers got wet. Fortunately, it was me who did it! I also managed to splash my buddy Kaatje. Kaatje shared some raisins with me and we had a great time together!

Oh, Kaatje's mama has asked me if I want to go over to their place for a play date. I hope that she has lot of cars and trains! If not, no amount of raisins is going to make me come back!

» Overseas
My folks reminded me that I am going "overseas" tomorrow. Yes, I am going on a field trip with my classmates to Sentosa!

The last time I flew over a large body of water, it took about a day to fly from the USA to Singapore. I am told that the field trip won't take nearly as long. Phew!

More updates tomorrow.

» Action!
Papa tells me that today, 15 Oct, is Blog Action Day. About 15,000 blogs are trying to grab the eyeballs of 12 million readers. (Ooh, attention... I like!)

To my dismay, I found out that Blog Action Day is about the environment. (Piffle!) It is about making sure that enough of it is still around when I grow up! (Ah, now I feel better!)

I know that I am not supposed just throw unwanted stuff on the ground. But I see this being done all the time in lifts and at the letterboxes. When I do, I say, "Aiyah, these people just throw rubbish on the floor!" So I make it a point to help mama or papa throw away junk mail into the rubbish bin instead of decorating the floor.

I notice papa collecting recyclables and leaving them outside our flat for someone to collect every two weeks. I see mama bringing her own bags for groceries. I try not to waste water. And I know how to switch off the cable box and TV when I am done watching something.

What else can I do, hmm? Does anyone want some broken toy cars and trucks? I also wonder if there is a need for recycled boogers...

» Bodoh
One of the things I love doing as I travel in the car is call out bus numbers. I also like to keep track of how many buses travel along a particular route.

Another thing I like to do is identify the brands of cars. I know quite a few like Honda, Nissan, Mazda, Subaru, and even Lamborghini! There are also lots of Bodoh cars out there.

Never heard of Bodoh? This is the most populous car in Singapore and somehow the most inconsiderate drivers tend to drive them. Mama calls them "bodoh" so that name stuck.

Are you a Bodoh driver?

» Stare
You know how much I like fiddling with gadgets and computers right?

You might recall how I love Photo Booth, mama's camera phone, a slate PC, the iPod, papa's old PDA, mama's Mac mini, and even a plain old keyboard.

Looking at all those photos and videos of me when I was younger was fun. But what I love to do most of all is just stare at whatever is playing on a computer screen!

» Day out
There is no medicine that is better than ice cream. It not only made me feel better, I think that it is making me smarter...

Mama was well enough to go out today and I skipped school to accompany her. We took the train down town where mama did some boring financial stuff. Fortunately, we then had lunch and ice cream and window-shopped at a toy store!

I felt really good by then. This made me wonder why I couldn't do more of this. You know, taking the train, eating and looking at yummy things, and spending time with mama... who needs school?

I vaguely recall my folks saying that they wanted to keep me out of Singapore's "education" system for as long as possible (so as not to destroy their good work, hah!). But they also said that it takes a village to raise a child. But what if that village is full of idiots?

Little Man Isaac

» Germs
My cold germs have spawned cough germs and I now have both. In the spirit of sharing, I have passed some germs to mama.

Surprise! [koff! koff!] Did you like your present, mama?

Little Man Isaac

» Factory
Today I am at home instead of in nursery school because I have a runny nose. My nose runs, so I run after it!

I feel fine. But mama does not want to add me as an ingredient to the germ factory that is the school! Papa says that mad military scientists should look at nursery schools instead of trying to develop the next great super germ.

Speaking of factories, I think that I am a "caterpillar" factory. I was snug as a bug in my carseat last night when I had a big sneeze. Out popped a yellow-green mucous caterpillar from my right nostril. It was thick and long and threatened to wriggle down my upper lip!

I laughed because of the yees and the yucks that mama and papa made. Unfortunately, papa decided that the caterpillar should become a pupa and wrapped it in a piece of tissue paper.

When I asked to see it later, papa said that it had become a butterfly and had flown away. So the next time you see a butterfly, remember me: Isaac the butterfly factory!
